About me

Through my experiences, I share real-life cultural differences,
everyday habits, and ways of thinking shaped by life in two countries.

Hello, I’m Naomi

Hello, I’m Naomi, a Japanese writer and the founder of Two Country Life.

I created this site to share the real, everyday differences between life in Japan and life in Australia.

Through my relationship with my Australian partner and many visits to Australia, I began to notice how differently our two cultures approach daily life.
Things that feel completely normal in one country can feel surprising in the other.

These discoveries became the starting point for this website.

Japan and Australia are both developed countries, yet the way people live can be very different.

For example:

  • how people communicate
  • how families spend time together
  • food culture and daily meals
  • social rules and public manners
  • work styles and lifestyle priorities

Japan often values harmony, subtle communication, and social balance.

Australia, on the other hand, values openness, independence, and direct communication.

Neither way is right or wrong — they simply reflect different cultural values.

Living between these perspectives has helped me understand both countries in a deeper way.

What You’ll Find on This Site

On Two Country Life, I share:

• cultural differences between Japan and Australia
• everyday lifestyle insights from Japan
• travel tips for visitors to Japan
• real stories from cross-cultural life

Many travel websites focus only on famous tourist spots.

But I believe the most interesting part of a country is how people actually live.

Through this site, I hope to show the small cultural details that travelers often miss.

I was born and raised in Japan and have spent most of my life here.

Before becoming a writer, I worked for 14 years in Japan’s caregiving industry, supporting elderly people and their families.

That experience gave me a deep understanding of Japanese society, family culture, and daily life.

Today, I share these perspectives through writing and cultural storytelling.

Why I Started Two Country Life

Many articles about Japan are written by visitors or short-term travelers.

While those perspectives are valuable, they sometimes miss the deeper cultural context behind everyday life.

As someone living in Japan and connected to Australia through my partner, I wanted to create a place where readers can explore the real cultural differences between the two countries.

Not stereotypes.
Not just travel guides.

But honest observations from life between two cultures.

My goal is simple:

To help people understand each other across cultures.

When we understand how other people live, the world becomes a little more open and a little more connected.

Thank You for Visiting

If you are interested in Japan, Australia, or cross-cultural life, I hope this site helps you discover something new.
